When it became clear that
my involvement was to be more than a pet owner, I set as my goal
to breed dogs that were capable of competing both in the show
ring and on the trail. I feel that I have achieved some degree
of success in reaching that goal. In limited breeding Black Oak
has been successful in the show ring finishing a number of home-bred
champions with several group placements and group wins to their
credit. I never actively specialed a dog so the wins in group
were especially gratifying.
Much of this covers more
history than current events. I did only co-breeding with Chris/Wayne
from '87 until I bred a litter in '94 and another in '97. BISS
Ch. Stormwatch's Montana SDO was a result of that pardnership
with Stormwatch. Monte is a Best in Show Specialty winner along
with winning Best Sled Dog, two Award of Merits and BOS at the
Siberian Husky Club of America National Specialties the past
few years.
Although it is very satisfying
to be successful in the show ring, the biggest thrill is having
bred dogs that are also true sled dogs. Team Stormwatch made that a reality. Beautique, Winter, Trace, and
Brae were a significant part of Stormwatch's past and continue
through their get to impact their present.
CAUTION
:
Owning a Siberian Husky
may be hazardous to your self-esteem. The Siberian Husky has
great problem solving skills and the first problem they overcome
is their owner's objections to everything they do. This can place
the owners i the position of being "owned" by their
pet. It takes patience, resolve, and flexibility for the human
component of this relationship to retain some degree of influence
and control.
The Siberian
Husky is unique, and it is those unique qualities that may have
a new owner either seeking psychiatric help or believing they
have the greatest dog ever. There is not much middle ground...it
is either love or hate. In order to make the experience with
your new pup easier and happier, or to decide even if a Siberian
is actually the dog for you, the prospective owner must learn
all they can about the breed. In the Links/Reference section,
I have listed informational resources that will prove very helpful.
Again, a Siberian Husky is not for everyone so do your homework
before you spend your money.
